Petro Plane Crash: Community Information

Topeka residents should not drink water from faucets due to the fuel spillage in the storm sewers. All water should be boiled before used for drinking or cooking.

Witnesses on the Westgate bridge reported seeing parts falling off the tail of the plane into the river as the plane flew over. No injuries outside of the campus area and surrounding intersections have been reported. The public has been asked to not touch any of the fallen parts. If debris from the plane has landed in, on, or around your home, please report this to the police.

Houses within a two-block radius have been evacuated. Residents have been relocated to the YMCA and the YWCA. Residents that have not been evacuated should use their own discretion if evacuation is necessary. The Red Cross has been called in to help assist with those affected by the accident.

The following streets have been closed:
* Washburn Avenue between 15th street and 25st street
* Macvicar Street between 15th and Shunga Trail
* 21st street between Lincoln and Randolph
* 17th street between Lincoln and Randolph

Please avoid this area, but if needed, follow the posted detours.
